Happy 6 Months Rowan!

Dear Rowan,

Happy half birthday Bubbas! I can not believe that you are already 6 months old. You are such a joy baby boy. Your smile is so infectious. Every morning you wake up cooing and you get so excited when you see me and your sissy walk in and get you. You save the best smiles for your sissy. You absolutely adore her.

Lets see what you have been up to this month.

You met Santa for the first time.

IMG_4777

You didn't seem too impressed. You did manage to pull his beard pretty hard though.

This month we celebrated your first Christmas and although you really didn't have a clue what was going on you loved playing with the wrapping paper and bows. You would grab tissue paper and crunch it up in your hands and shake it back and forth. This was probably the highlight of your holiday. I think you liked the wrapping paper more than your presents.

IMG_4924

Most days we spend on the floor playing. The other day you were on the floor and I walked out of the room and when I came back your sister was handing you a ball. You would grasp onto it and then chuck it and she would say, "Yay Ro Ro! Way da go! You did it!" and then go get the ball and bring it back to you. It was so funny to watch.

IMG_4956

I don't know what it is with you, maybe its a boy thing, but you have had so many diaper blow outs. I can only remember one time your sister had one but you seriously crap your pants and nearly every time it goes up your back to your ears. Whenever I sit you in your jumper you turn beet red and shoot firecrackers out your bum and I am always so scared to change you and see that it has gone clear up your back. Just today you did the exact same thing and when I changed you I got poop all over the carpet. I didn't see it oozing out of your diaper until it was too late. So we stripped you down and gave you a bath. I secretly think you do this so you get a bath. You love bath time.

IMG_4948

This month was the first month that you were sick. You threw up twice in one day and you had me so worried. One thing about you being sick made me stop and realize how lucky I am that you are healthy. Even when you were not feeling well you were still the best baby.

IMG_4953

Right now you love being in your jumper. You jump so hard that sometimes I think you will jump right out of it and onto the floor! You love to play with your feet. You laugh really hard when we tickle you. You love to play peek-a-boo and you love when I read books to you. You want to grab everything you can and shove it into your mouth. You are a drooling fool. You are still a great eater and you are sleeping in longer stretches. You are finally sitting up and it is your favorite thing to do! You make every day amazing and you are getting so big baby boy. I just love every day of my life with you in it. And I love you too.

Love,

Mama

Happy 5 Months Rowan!

IMG_4698

Dear Rowan,

Today you turn 5 months old. Where in the world have the last 5 months gone? I swear I blinked and here we are. You are such a delight baby boy. Everyone has said to me how you are such a happy baby and I couldn't agree more. You are always smiling and cooing. You love to be held and adore playing with your big sissy.

IMG_4651

This is the first month that you really started to notice other objects. Your sister has these 3 cars that magnetically attach to each other and the other day she was pushing them across the floor and I noticed how your head turned to follow them. I placed you on the floor and you grabbed for them. You spent nearly an hour batting and pushing them.

IMG_4654

You are a pro at grabbing toys and putting them in your mouth. One day this week you grabbed for your toy and once you gripped it in your little hand you swung it up to your mouth as hard as you could. You completely missed and ended up clocking yourself right in the nose. You busted out in tears but you stopped seconds later more determined then ever to get it in your mouth.

IMG_4660

This month you started solid foods. You are not much of a fan of cereal but you seem to like sweet potatoes. You LOVE peas. When I feed you peas you start bouncing up and down and flail your arms all over the place. You ripped the spoon out of my hands like, "WOMAN ILL FEED THIS DELICIOUSNESS TO MYSELF." You had me cracking up the entire time. You nearly ate the whole jar last night. So right now I would say peas are your favorite. And it makes me happy to tell you that now your face looks like your butt.

IMG_4678

Last night I gave you and your sister a bath together for the first time without you in your baby tub. I made the water just high enough for you to get a little wet and then I laid you down inside and put your sister in beside you. You were kicking your legs like crazy and splashing water all over the place. You had your sister soaking wet and she was laughing so hard. So she decided to lay down beside you and kick her feet too. Water was going everywhere and I couldn't help but think how as you get older the two of you are going to have so much fun together. I hope the two of you are always the best of friends.

IMG_4691

I hope you know that you are absolute joy in our lives. I think back now to the first month after you were born and how hard it was to adjust to our new "normal." I remember wondering what on earth we were thinking and if it was ever going to feel like I had things under control. I think one thing (out of many) that you have taught me is that I will never have everything "under control" but I can say that now things are much better. We found our groove and we are rocking it.  I can't imagine my day without you in it. From your big smiling grin in the mornings, the afternoon playtime on the floor, to the sweet smell of your skin and snuggles at bedtime. I am so blessed to call you mine.

IMG_4696

I love you to the moon and back.

Love,

Mama

Happy 4 Months Rowan!

Dear Rowan,

Yes, I know you turned four months old nine days ago. Give me a break! I am completely honest when I tell you this is the first time I have been able to sit down and write your letter. If there is one word I would use to describe my life right now, crazy comes to mind. Since you showed up there is this thing called "time" and I don't seem to have any of it anymore. Not that I would change a thing about it though!

You have spent this past month smiling and talking to everyone you meet. You coo and make noises all day long. I think you are going to be a very talkative baby. There is a mirror on your swing and you can see yourself in it and you have full-on conversations with that baby in the mirror.

IMG_4562

You finally started drooling. I say that like I am glad you started but really its just a big mess. We go through so many outfits and bibs because you soak yourself. You remind me of that dog in that movie, Turner and Hooch or something like that. Although, I think you are much cuter than that dog ever was. A lot of people have commented that you might be teething. A lot of people said that about your sister too and she didn't get a tooth until she was 11-months-old. So we will just sit back and wait and see when you finally get a tooth. I'm not going to hold my breath.

IMG_4572

You are getting much better with your head control and we could finally set you in your jumper this month. You really seem to like playing with the frog and the beads that are attached to the one side of it. Your sissy always comes by and goes, "Oh no" at the puddle of drool on the floor underneath your jumper. She runs and grabs a towel and wipes it up. What can I say, she is a little type-A.

You are still waking up several times a night. We are hoping once you start some solid foods that you will sleep a little longer at night but you eat and go right back to sleep at night so it isn't too bad. We took you to the doctor for your check-up and you weighed 18lbs 9oz and you are 26 1/4" long. You are wearing some 6 month clothing but mostly 9 months. You are wearing a size 3 diaper. (Your sister who is 2-years-older wears a size 4). To say you are big would be an understatement. We hear lots of comments about how big you are for your age and we are just so happy that you are healthy.

IMG_4565

You are such a sweet baby boy. You love to cuddle with me and you are constantly looking around the room to find me. I could wear you in the sling all day and you would be perfectly content. The sound of your little voice talking to yourself in the morning brings a smile to my face and your smile melts my heart. I am in love with your big brown eyes and your chunky thighs. I could kiss your cheeks and nibble on your ears all day long if you would let me.

I am so lucky you are mine.

Love,

Mama

Recent Developments

Rowan has been doing a lot of tummy time lately.

IMG_4108

He has started to kick his bum up pretty high in the air!
IMG_4109
Especially when he pushes off daddy's hand.

IMG_4113
As soon as he figures out how to use his arms along with his legs to move I think we are in trouble...

IMG_4349
He has also started sitting up in his Bumbo

IMG_4353

IMG_4357

She was just going in for a kiss I swear! haha

And just yesterday he started holding on to his toys, bringing them up to his mouth to chew on them and swinging them in the air!

Bill and Sally's 50th Wedding Anniversary

My grandparents on my dad's side will be married 50 years in December. I have been thinking and thinking about what I could do for them as a gift and then I started to think that I don't really have many pictures of them together. So I offered to take their pictures at the park. I think I got a lot of really nice ones and I am going to frame a few for them to have and also to give to my parents and my uncle. It is just going to be tough which ones I choose!

IMG_4162IMG_4174IMG_4202IMG_4232IMG_4267IMG_4272IMG_4275IMG_4284IMG_4295IMG_4300IMG_4315IMG_4325IMG_4341IMG_4345

I am really, really hoping to get photoshop for Christmas and then I will be able to tweak these a little more and really make them something special. I am just so glad my grandparents were such good sports and allowed me to photograph them. My grandpa told me I took his picture more than he had ever been photographed in his life! I know I will always treasure these.

Happy 3 Months Rowan!

Dear Rowan,

Today you turn three months old! I can not believe how quickly the time is going. It seems like yesterday you were a tiny little baby who would curl up in my arms perfectly and snooze. Well, you still do that and I am taking full advantage. I know just how soon you will be rolling over, crawling, standing and then walking and the last thing on earth you will want to do is lay still in my arms for even a minute. There is a big world out there for you to explore so I am content for the moment knowing that right now mom and dad are the coolest things on earth.

IMG_3937

The other morning you woke up fussing...which is how you usually wake up. You don't really cry. You just do this pitiful puppy dog whine and whimper. I guess you know if you do this long enough mom or dad will eventually bring you the goods. If we don't your cries turn into this high pitch squeal that could shatter glass. We try to avoid those cries because we like having our sense of hearing. Anyway, you woke up fussing and I rolled over and looked into your bassinet and the moment you saw me you started kicking your legs and swinging your arms all over and you broke out in the biggest grin. I didn't even have to say a word. It melted my heart to know that just the sight of me makes you that happy. I hope it will always be that way.

IMG_3839

During the day you spend most of your time either sitting in your swing or laying on your playtime mat batting at the toys that hang down by your face. You absolutely love to sit up and if you are fussy I can have you sit on my lap or sit you in your bumbo and hold your head forever and you are so content to just look around. You are starting to notice the tv and will watch a little bit of whatever your sissy is watching too. Speaking of your sissy, she kisses you CONSTANTLY. We have to actually ask her to stop and let you sleep. She loves you. No question about that.

IMG_3804

The best thing that happened this month is that you slept through the night! We laid you down at 11 and you slept until 8 the next morning! Your daddy and I were so excited and hoped you would keep it up, but the next night you woke up every twenty minutes so we are not there quite yet. You are only getting up once a night so we won't complain. I think you are a pretty good sleeper, but daddy is the one who usually gets up with you so he might disagree!

IMG_3791

These past three months have been such a blessing with you in our lives. We love you budders.

Love,

Mama

Happy 2 Months Rowan!

Dear Rowan,

Yesterday you turned two months old (but really, you were 8 weeks last week. Don't ask me how this works. Let's just say you were born on the 5th so your not really a month older till the 5th.) The reason I am just now writing to you is because you didn't give me one single solitary second to write to you yesterday. You spent your entire second month birthday crying. I hate to break it to you, but you were a huge party pooper. Yes, I know it's your party and you can cry if you want to...but what is so bad about turning two months old? What is there to be so unhappy about? Just wait till you move out and have to pay your own bills and wipe your own butt and then we can talk about unhappy.

IMG_3229

Let's see...what have you been up to this month? This month things finally started to get a little easier. You have been sleeping in four hour chunks. You usually go down at 10pm and wake up around 2pm and then 7am and we get up for the day around 10. It hasn't been too bad and so much easier than the every-two-hour milk marathon you were on before. You are eating just about 4oz at every feeding which is good because I can finally keep up with you and you get very few formula bottles anymore. You look like a baby twice your age though. We thought your sister was big at 2 months, but when I look at you I think you could easily pass for a four month old. You are also wearing 3 month clothing and don't fit in any of your 0-3 month clothing anymore. This makes me so sad, but I am so happy you are one big happy and healthy boy.

IMG_3485

This month you started cooing and smiling and it gives everyone great pleasure to sit and talk to you and try to get you going. The other day I was laying on the floor talking to you and you had the most determined look on your face as you tensed your whole body up, clenched your fists and let out a huge coo. A lot of the time it sounds like you are about to cry, but then we realize you are just trying to talk to us. You also smiled for the first time this month and it melts my heart each and every time I see it. You are not doing it too often just yet and when you let a little one slip out we can't help but laugh. It seems you must be having very pleasant dreams because you can often be found smiling as you snooze.

IMG_3566

Speaking of snoozing, we have a very specific approach to getting you to sleep. During the day the only way you will sleep is in your swing, with your blanket and the Coldplay station playing on Pandora. At night, we swaddle you and lay you on your side and turn on the ocean waves music. That ocean wave music works amazingly well. So well in fact that your dad and I noticed that its working wonders on us to. The other night your daddy put you to sleep and when he came out of the room he said he had to hurry up and get out of there before the ocean waves lulled him to sleep.

IMG_3295

Rowan this month has been another amazing one. It seems like it has gone by so quickly and that is because it really has. If there is one thing that I learned from having your sister it is that these days are gone in the blink of an eye. I just try to remind myself of that and take each day and soak it all in. I just know that in a year from now, two years from now, five years from now and especially 18 years from now I am going to miss these days. These days were I can hold you close in the middle of the night and hear you breathing. These days when I can kiss on your cheeks a million times and you never once look at me funny or tell me to stop. These days when fit just perfectly in my arms. You were made for me buddy and I am so lucky to have these days.

Love,

Mama

Happy 1 month Rowan!

Dear Rowan,

Look at you buddy! Today you turn one month old and can you believe we made it out alive? Boy was this month a rough one. Maybe not so much for you, but I'm going to be completely honest and say it was for me. I am sure one day you will read this and look at me and ask what exactly could be so hard about a baby that does nothing but eat, sleep and poop. So let me break it down for you. You do a whole lot of the eating and pooping thing. Not so much the sleeping thing.

IMG_3200

I know you are going to hate being compared to your sister, but the truth is that when your sister was born we didn't have anything to compare her to. We had to fly by the seat of our pants with her. This will sometimes benefit you, as we have a little bit more of a clue what we are doing since we have lived through it before. Just think of your sister as our guinea pig. But the thing is, you are nothing like your sister. You are you. Where your sister loved a binky, you don't really need one all that much. Where your sister ate and went right back to sleep at night, you eat and then want to be held for awhile before you drift off to sleep. Where your sister ate every two hours like clockwork, you eat every hour or sometimes half an hour and you eat a LOT. Your sister loved to be swaddled, sometimes wrapping you up like burrito makes you very happy. Sometimes it causes you to turn bright red in the face and break out of it like the Incredible Hulk. Where your sister always fell asleep in the car, there have been plenty of times that you have been wide awake and screaming your head off as we go for a "joy ride."

IMG_3203

What I am trying to say is although we have been on this roller coaster before, yours has a few extra twists, turns and nosedives. We are still figuring out what works for you. This has been a hard month. Made even harder by the fact that daddy isn't home at night and mommy has to figure out a lot of this on her own. There have been plenty of nights where I called your daddy bawling my eyes out and telling him I couldn't take it anymore. There have also been nights where I soaked up your little scent while you laid with me in bed. The nights that I smiled at the sound of your breathing. The quick quick quick breathing followed by a huge sigh. Laughing at the little gassy smiles and the look your face makes when your eyes roll into the back of your head. There have been plenty of good times too.

IMG_3205

The one thing we were most terrified about was bringing you home and seeing how your sister would react to you. Seems the thing we were most worried about ended up being the thing that was the easiest transition. Your sister absolutely adores you. Not once has she acted jealous of your presence. In fact, she acts more like your protector than anything else. She gets upset when you cry and we have to reassure her that you are fine. She runs into our room to check on you first thing in the morning and she is constantly gives you kisses.  This is what we dreamed of when we thought of our children. That love that is unlike any other. The love shared between siblings. This might change once you learn to crawl and chew on her toys, but for now it has been such a blessing to see.

IMG_3219

It is so very hard to believe that a whole month has already gone by, but at the same time it seems like I can no longer remember a time that you were not a part of our lives.  We may have lost a month of sleep but we have gained so much more.

IMG_3222

We love you so much Robuggie.

Love,

Mama
